April Lockhart
April Lockhart born 4 July 1995. She began with guitar and piano in seventh grade. This sparked curiosity. April's first song was Different which she composed at the age of 12. When she was 14 years old, April was spending a lot of time writing songs and honed her musicianship ability. Then, in the following months, April began to travel with her dad and write at home in NY and LA. April began to include various other topics relevant to the song, which she called the Take my Hand song for some acquaintances, including peer pressure disabilities and teen suicide. Lockhart is a partner at famous Clean Beauty brand Ilia as well as a lifestyle blogger with a huge following of her own. She was born without her left hand and that is part of her story, but it's hardly her whole story. Because of this, her Instagram account does not shy away from her handicap, however the focus isn't on her disability as well. It's a reminder. The message is that we all share many identities, we're way more diverse than we think that we're. Lockhart talks through video from Nashville. "I do not want it to define my life. I do not want to be merely recognized as an expert in disabilities. And it doesn't affect my everyday life. I go about things normally, and I've discovered my own method of adjusting the things. The same is true for me, and I believe it's something that needs to be addressed. Lockhart has been a great example to other women in the area of acceptance of oneself. Still, she acknowledges going through phases of being uncomfortable with her physique and being uncomfortable in certain clothes which exposed her arms. Now she wears whatever outfit she wishes and shares pictures on Facebook in awe. The self-love she talks about is a journey. It's hard to say if you'll ever reach the point of no return. It's a journey, I don't think you ever arrive. It's essential to have those around you who are aware of and appreciate the way you feel. They will be the ones to ask your: What are you worry about?
